Minimalism by Maximization
Screen real estate is precious with a 13” MacBook. I used to struggle to arrange applications so I could maintain an overview of what was happening on my laptop. What I got was desktop clutter, which led to mental clutter.
Now, I maximize the application I am working in and leave the others in the background. When maximizing isn’t feasible (Tweetie for Mac, for instance), then Isolator helps keep me focused. Adium lurks just off my screen (sliding the mouse to the left side of my screen pops up my user list) and Growl keeps me informed about most other actions, such as incoming instant messages, that occur outside my frontmost working application.
