This is my default desktop background since June 2009. I had an almost black background, but decided to switch to an “Apple default wallpaper. It feels more like summer, but is not so minimalistic at the end. This doesn’t matter, because
a) it’s nature and
b) I’ve always a window open that covers the desktop background.
I don’t have any icons on my desktop and I use Hazel to move all of my desktop items to the Downloads folder. There this excellent piece of software automatically adds labels to items (green means new, yellow means a couple of days old, orange means do something about this item and red means you a are an unorganized loser). I like to hide my Dock. Most frequently I use Apple’s application switcher or LaunchBar, so I don’t need it at all. Recently I switched from the excellent Yojimbo to DevonThink, because I needed a more powerful application. The beta version has this nice Yojimbo-like drawer that I frequently use. I don’t like the LittleSnapper icon in the menu bar, mainly because the dockless-mode is poorly implemented, so I have it already in the Dock and there is really no reason to have access to the application twice. The WiFi icon will disappear shortly, because I’m going to connect my Mac via the good old ethernet cable. I need the Scripts icon, because I heavily use my own AppleScripts in almost every primary application. The remaining icons in the menu bar are necessary evil.” (via Rafael Bugajewski)
